Fluffy, golden, and buttery—these classic biscuits are perfect for breakfast or as a comforting side. Ingredients 2 cups all-purpose flour, packed (If using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt) 1 Tbsp baking powder (Omit if using self-rising flour) ½ tsp salt (Omit if using self-rising flour; if using unsalted butter, increase to ¾ tsp) ½ cup salted butter, cut into small pieces (If using unsalted butter, add an extra ¼ tsp salt) 1 cup milk (regular or buttermilk) Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 3: Cut in the Butter

Add the butter in small pieces.

Using your hands or a pastry blender, mix until the butter is pea-sized and the mixture is crumbly.

Step 4: Add the Milk

Pour in the milk.

Stir with a wooden spoon until the dough is just combined.

Do not overmix—this keeps the biscuits tender.

Step 5: Roll and Cut the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface.

Roll out to about ¾ inch thickness.

Cut biscuits using a biscuit cutter or cookie cutter.

Step 6: Arrange and Bake

Place biscuits on an ungreased cookie sheet or iron skillet.

Make sure the biscuits touch—this helps them rise higher.

Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.

Tips

For softer biscuits: Use buttermilk instead of regular milk.

For crispier edges: Space the biscuits apart instead of letting them touch.

Don’t twist the cutter: It can seal the edges and prevent rising.

Enjoy!
